Farm Fresh To Go at La Belle Aurore, Niantic

We expect most fine dining restaurants in the area to support our local farms, but the idea is gaining ground with more casual spots. One of the first eateries to embrace the farm-to-table philosophy is La Belle Aurore. This beloved Niantic restaurant has been serving carefully sourced and mainly organic brunch and dinner for the last fourteen years! And now they’re offering home-cooked take out with a focus on healthy edibles. Whether you lean vegan, vegetarian, gluten, or dairy-free, you’ll find something yummy here.

This show-stopping roasted vegetable and rice-filled pumpkin was available the day I ran in. It seems almost a pity to waste it on just my husband and me when it really deserves a party! Stuffed with squash, broccoli, cauliflower, beets, eggplant, and forbidden rice, it was plenty for dinner (just popped it in the oven to reheat for half an hour). I also grabbed a container of silky dairy-free butternut squash soup, made oh-so-creamy with the addition of coconut milk and spiked with apple cider, turmeric, and ginger. You’ll find some flaky beef and chicken pot-pies on hand, too, and whatever else Chef Dawn is inspired to whip up from seasonal ingredients.
