Fenwick’N Chicken at The Tea Kettle Restaurant
Our ears perk at the very mention of “Hot Chicken” and we’ll travel for it. But lucky for us, Chef Dave Ciastko at The Tea Kettle in Old Saybrook has shifted his talents to a chicken-focused takeout and delivery menu. Choose from Gastropub “handhelds” to bowls and salads and lots of yummy sides. Chicken choices run the gamut from Southern-style crispy-fried or grilled to meatless. These tasty treasures come topped with tangy slaws, pickled onions, shredded lettuce and tomato and sweet and spicy sauces. I devoured the Sweet & Hot Chicken – a crispy chicken breast slathered in “Carolina Reaper Sauce” with Maple Mustard Aioli, pickled red onion, and slaw on a Brioche bun. I’ve been dreaming of that delightfully messy sandwich (pictured above) ever since.
We sampled some Roasted Garlic Buffalo Wings plus a side of THE crispiest sweet potato fries. For a slightly lighter treat, we gobbled up the Buffalo Cauliflower bites. The menu offers loads of sides like bbq and spicy fries, whiskey battered onion rings, fried pickles and daily specials like Chicken & Waffles and Maple Bacon Donut Chicken (yes, chicken on a donut).
