Gargano Pasta & Italian Market (Finally) Opens in Old Saybrook

If you haven’t checked out the new Gargano Pasta in Old Saybrook (owned by the brilliant team behind Grano), you may be the only one. We stopped in for lunch on opening day with literally hundreds of others! No matter; service was quick, and we shared a fresh Misticanza salad of local lettuces, fennel, and pecorino and a plate of spaghetti Cacio e Pepe (who can resist that creamy, cheesy, peppery blend?). I purchased a pizza to go and served it at room temperature as an easy hors d’oeuvre; more of a focaccia than a pie and so delish.

This vast Eataly-style space will quickly become a destination for all manner of noshing needs. You’ll find an Italian cafe with fresh pastries at one end for breakfast, a full salumeria with local and imported cheeses and charcuterie, a lunch counter for hot pasta, salads, and sandwiches (to go or stay), a station churning out fresh pasta and Grano’s famous sauces, plus islands of Italian gourmet products (grapefruit marmalade or pistachio paste, anyone?). And you can even order an Aperol Spritz to go with your orecchiette. An exciting addition to the blossoming food scene in Old Saybrook! Our only suggestion? Please open for dinner!

Dine inside or out, and to-go.
Hours: Tuesday thru Saturday, 7:30 to 5:00
Sunday: 7:30 to 3:00
