Happy Hour at Aspen
Aspen’s Happy Hour is a steal. We grabbed a couple of seats at the bar at 5:55 on a busy Thursday night, just in the nick of time to take advantage of the half-price Bar Bites menu. If you’re looking for something larger than a snack, head here. We ordered four appetizers and had enough left over to take home for dinner for the husbands. A mound of loaded fries ($5) is more like an explosion of an over-the-top baked potato: a huge portion, oozing cheese, bacon, scallions and barbecue sauce, exactly the sort of food that screeches Happy Hour (don’t even think about ordering more than one, it’s plenty for the table). Three cheeseburger sliders ($6) were perfectly medium rare and snuggled happily on mini brioche buns. And when was the last time you had tempura? We think it’s time to bring back this beloved eighties-era food fad. We LOVED the crispy broccoli, string beans and onion rings ($5.50). Of course, we could have stopped there, but no…we ordered a grilled shrimp flatbread ($6.50) too, but packed it to go. This is all very happy food (no salad? I guess that’s not so happy!), made even happier by our darling bartender, Kiki. She was a delight and spread her good cheer around to all of us at the bar.
Aspen Happy Hour: half-price appetizers Tuesday through Friday from 4 – 6pm and 1/2 price wine by the bottle on Wednesday nights.
