Happy Hour at Shipwright’s Daughter in Mystic

The restaurant scene in Mystic is so enticing, but I prefer to avoid the summer crowds. I was dying to return to Shipwright’s Daughter, which I wrote about when they opened smack in the middle of Covid craziness. Laura and I zipped over for Happy Hour the other day, and OH, WHAT FUN. With drinks, apps, and oysters at half price, we had a veritable party. The fried oysters are not to be missed, presented in their shells on a salt bed. A crunchy, tasty delight. Next up, a creamy crab dip with crispy housemade potato chips. We thought we best have some greens, so blistered shishitos to the rescue. Freshly baked bread here is a side order, but don’t stint; the sweet, savory, smoky poblano butter is a revelation. I stuck to a natural, Loureiro Skin Contact, Bojo Do Luar “Doralice”, a Vinho Verde from Portugal. But Laura did not resist the gorgeous Floral Gin & Tonic made with Barr Hill gin from VT, butterfly pea powder, lavender honey and lemon which made for a lovely photo as you see here. We are big fans of happy hour and early dining, and Shipwright’s offers one worth traveling for.
