Last Minute & Local for Mother’s Day
In my travels, I always spot things that would make a great Mother’s Day gift (for moi) or to stock the gift closet for summer soirees. Here are a few of my latest finds:
Save the Drama for Your Mama tee shirt at Folklore Flower Co. in Madison. This shop is packed with fun gifts at every price point. I snapped up a bottle of Baha Zen’s Beach Haus room spray, and I love it so much I’ve even been spritzing myself. You can easily pull together a basket of goodies, and grab a gorgeous bouquet designed by owner Kate, all in one stop.
When I’m in Stonington, I love to check out Wm. Cole (not in the borough, at 862 Stonington Road). Owner Chelsea is a spot-on merchandiser, and this cozy shop is stocked with well-priced and on-trend jewelry, plenty of perfect host/ess gifts, whimsical stationery, and these bright and summery beaded clutches.
Adore in Mystic has always been a haunt for me, and now it’s not just for gifts. Deborah, the mastermind behind the shop, has added a curated inventory of women’s clothing (and a men’s section) with a strong presentation of summer dresses. If you’re traveling this summer do not pass up the Vionic super comfortable, squishy, and packable loafers.
At La Cote in Mystic, you can have a field day buying these hilarious needlepoint pillows for all your friends. Not My Circus, Not My Monkeys is regularly bandied about my house, and, YES, I can buy my own flowers. The shop is full of not-your-average gift items, including these vibrant artist plates. There are a variety to choose from; I’m partial to Frida Kahlo and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Any gardener would be happy with these hand-thrown terra cotta pots at Azalea in Niantic. You’ll find a vast inventory of all shapes and sizes.
The gardening selection is unsurpassed at Deep River Home. Find Japanese gear and tools, Haws watering cans (crafted in England since 1886), and forged hand tools by Piginoir, plus fun picnic blankets and coolers from cult fave Baggu.
