Lilywork Artisan Tile, Old Lyme

I have been fascinated by pottery all my life and have gathered a small collection of American Arts & Crafts vessels. Although I tried my hand at throwing (no talent there!),  I have a deep appreciation for beautiful ceramics. You can imagine my excitement when I came across Lilywork!

Esther and Paul Hafferty, a husband-and-wife team, live in Old Lyme and create artisan tiles in their barn next door. The stoneware tiles feature evocative glazes inspired by the ethos of the American Arts and Crafts movement, which emerged as an antidote to the Industrial Revolution and celebrated the beauty of handmade objects.

The tiles are hand-pressed and come in a variety of classic shapes and an array of colors, with no two exactly alike. Custom murals are their specialty; elaborate plaques featuring birds, branches, lighthouses, and more line the walls of their showroom. Whatever you envision, they can bring it to life. If you’re on the hunt for something truly unique for a kitchen backsplash,  bathroom, or fireplace surround, make an appointment online to visit the showroom: lilyworktile.com/lilywork-tile-dealers
