A Mexican Inspired Happy Hour at River Tavern
If it’s Wednesday, it must be River Tavern for half price margaritas ($6.50) and three tacos for $15. And oh what a margarita! You’ll have your choice of Classic, Jalapeno or Spicy Coconut. The night I stopped by, the bartender was also mixing a slightly sweet and puckery tart Prickly Pear Margarita. For tacos, we tried chicken and wood fire grilled shrimp. That, too, tasted like a little symphony in a soft corn tortilla with pineapple and tomatillo sauce adding interest. Needing a bit more to go with our drinks, we chose the Fish Fingers, decidedly not the fish sticks you remember from Friday lunch in elementary school. Think monkfish marinated in coconut milk, delicately fried and served with Thai chili lime dressing. Check the website for other specials during the week, like half-price wines by the bottle on Monday nights.
