Savour Cafe & Bakery, Centerbrook
We’re always on the hunt for a good lunch spot, and we found one in Centerbrook. The new Savour Cafe and Bakery is already a lively scene and it just opened last week. On our visit, locals lined up at the counter for fresh salads, sandwiches, panini and pastries, and the slightly overwhelmed staff aimed to please. While there are plenty of suggestions on the chalkboard menu, like Ham and Brie with Apricot Mustard on a Croissant, or Marinated Grilled Veggies on Focaccia, you can build your own salad or sandwich with a handy “crafter”, picking your elements and handing it off to the staff. I chose the Savour Signature Salad, a classic of baby greens, goat cheese, and dried cranberries, elevated with the addition of fennel, apple, and a cider vinaigrette. My husband loves a wrap and you can’t go wrong with a turkey, avocado, bacon combo. Do NOT miss dessert…I actually started with mine…a chunky, fudgy, gluten-free dark chocolate cookie, and we grabbed a French Apple Cake to go. The case of take-out dinner options is a nice departure from the typical pasta-centric offerings around here: Chicken with 40 Cloves of Garlic, Fruit Stuffed Pork Tenderloin, and French Onion Soup. The cafe has a decidedly French feel with classic, creamy Provencal yellow painted walls and pickled pine floors. It’s a bright spot for breakfast, lunch or an afternoon cup of tea with a home-baked sweet treat.
