Taquerio Takes Over

We were sad to hear that M Bar, a go-to for wine and cheese plates, closed permanently, but the new iteration is a happy one. Bright and colorful Taquerio has moved into the renovated gas station on Broadway in Mystic.

While there was a dearth of taco joints on the Shoreline for years, suddenly they’re popping up all over. We loved the a la carte street taco combos here. We munched house-made chips and fresh Pico de Gallo as we decided on our tacos. For me, a Pollo Verde with pulled chicken, roasted corn, and queso fresco. The yummy Carnitas here are sprinkled with tangy pineapple. And just for fun, I couldn’t resist the Gringo, your basic ground beef, lettuce, tomato, and cheese (a rarity in an authentic taco stand), but it was delish and a good option for the kiddies. We also tried the fried avocado, weirdly good. Don’t miss a side of sweet plantains. We skipped the cocktails at lunch, but I’ll be back for a watermelon margarita.

Good to know: Tacos run $4 to $5, with plenty of vegetarian options. Taco bowls and lettuce wraps also available.
