Finally, it’s here: Spring on the Shoreline!  Events are ramping up so grab your calendars and add a few of these!

The Power of Words: A Celebration of Black Poets in Connecticut, Saturday, April 9, 10:30 – 4pm. The Lyman Allyn and CT Poet Laureate, Margaret Gibsor host this one-day event featuring a series of programs that h highlight the work and knowledge of six award-winning contemporary black poets.

Spring Bird Walk at McCulloch Property in Old Lyme, April 14th from 9 – 11am Register for a bird walk at the McCulloch Family Property.  The town of Old Lyme purchased this historic farm for Open Space.

Spring Fling with The Vintage Market, Salem, Saturday April 9th in the greenhouse at Burnett’s Country Gardens, Salem. Over 50 vendors of all things vintage, re-purposed, crafts and more. You don’t want to miss this!

New England Food Truck Fest at Waterford Beach, April 9th, 12 – 7pm

Easter Egg Hunt, Old Saybrook, April 9th, 10 – 12pm. Meet the Easter Bunny at Apple Rehab Saybrook’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt. Children of all ages Welcome! Rain or Shine

Springtime Basket Weaving Workshop at The Florence Griswold Museum, April 9th, 11 – 4pm. Join Jennifer Misseri of Connecticut Valley Baskets,  learn traditional basket-making techniques and create your own Easter basket (perfect for filling with spring flowers and colorful eggs, but useful all year).

First Annual Spring Eggstravaganza at The Lyme Academy of Fine Arts, Saturday, April 16th, 11 – 1pm The Lyme Academy of Fine Arts in partnership with Lyme Old Lyme Lions Club invites the community to gather on the Academy’s campus on Lyme Street for an afternoon of festive outdoor activities including egg hunts, live music, food, photos and more! 

Creative Arts Workshop, New Haven: Intro to Digital Photography,Tuesdays, April 5th – May 10th 6:30 – 9:30pmLearn to use camera controls, composition, and lighting to express your personal vision. Through demonstrations, assignments, and critiques students will develop techniques that allow them to transition from taking photographs to making them. 

Star of Freedom, A New Musical at The Ivoryton Playhouse, April 7th – May 1st. Based on Blaney’s concept album ExodusSTAR OF FREEDOM takes us on a journey with Sean and Chloe as they search for the meaning of home in 1860s America. The two come from completely different worlds – one an Irish immigrant, the other an African-American slave – but when the Civil War forces their lives to intersect, they show us what it means to be American during the 19th century. Bunny Breakfast at The Essex Steam Train, April 9th from 8:30 – 11am. Hippity Hop for Bunny Breakfast aboard vintage Pullman dining cars. Families will delight in a spring train ride through the beautiful Connecticut River Valley as they enjoy a family style platter of breakfast items suitable for all ages. 

Easter Egg Handout at Olde Mistick Village: April 16, 10 to 6pm. Families can enjoy the magic and fun of Olde Mistick Village while getting in the Easter spirit with free candy filled Easter eggs available throughout the village.

Easter Egg Hunt with The Exchange Club of Madison at the Madison Surf Club Picnic Area, Saturday, April 9th at 10am. Arrive at 9:00 am, the Easter Bunny arrives at 9:30 and the hunt begins at 10:00 am. Bring your own basket. Prizes will be awarded to those who find prize eggs. Rain Date: Saturday, April 16, 10:00 am. The hunt is for children in 2nd grade or younger.

Easter Egg Hunt at Essex Chocolates every Friday night, all day Saturday and Sunday through April 17th.*$20 per child, $5 off for each sibling*. Duration is 1 hour. The Easter Egg Hunt will include a reusable basket, Easter mask, toy eggs from the hunt with toys and candy, a favor bag with toys and Easter decorations, and a photo with Easter Bunny. Please call to reserve your spot: (860) 662-4325

Pirate Days at Mystic Seaport Museum: 4/20 & 4/21: Avast, me hearties, head over to Mystic Seaport Museum for a treasure trove of outdoor fun for the whole family! Grab your pirate map and put those navigation skills to the test to find the secret loot. Elm City Cherry Blossom Festival, April 24th, noon to 4:30pm. This year’s event – the 47th – will feature musical performances, food trucks and food carts, allowing Wooster Square residents and cherry blossom enthusiasts to enjoy an afternoon in the park.

Daffodil Day at the Wadsworth Mansion, Middletown, April 24th, 12 – 3pm. Free. Food trucks, outdoor family fun activities, scavenger hunts, kite flying and more.

White Gate Farm Vegan Dinner, East Lyme, 4/24 from 6 – 9pm.  In celebration of New England Kelp Harvest Wekk, White Gate is offering their annual vegan dinner with a focus on Stonington Sugar Kelp.  Sugar kelp is filled with essential micronutrients and vitamins…the perfect power food! CT Spring Boat Show at Safe Harbour Essex Island April 29th, 30, and 5/1/22. The 2021 Show raised over $22,000.00 in much-needed funds for Sails Up 4 Cancer. In 2022, the Boat Show will feature the first-ever Taste of Essex℠ exhibits, Newport Bermuda Race seminars, Fishing The Sound and Beyond seminars and more activities for kids.
