What’s Going on at The Wadsworth?

This weekend the Wadsworth Atheneum held its grand reopening after a 33 million dollar renovation and updates to thirty-two galleries. I had a chance to see the revamped Post War and Contemporary Galleries this spring, with pieces from the likes of Kara Walker, Sol LeWitt, Franz Kline and Cindy Sherman. Now, a complete reinstallation of the European Art Collection is on view, including over 1000 works of painting, decorative arts and sculpture, not seen in 20 years (wow!). Me, I’m looking forward to this upcoming exhibition: Warhol & Mapplethorpe: Guise & Dolls. Opening on October 17th, the exhibit will feature one hundred works by the artists focusing on the crazy days of New York in the seventies and eighties. (A few of us remember that, right?). Head up on the first Thursday of every month for live music, cocktails, food and art activities from 5 – 8pm. Or bring the kiddies every second Saturday for hands on art, tours for families and live performances. An old retail dog myself, I was impressed with the selection, originality and depth of the Museum Shop. You won’t leave empty-handed!
