13 Questions for Jewelry Designer Ann Lightfoot

The Shoreline is a veritable breeding ground for designers, makers, and artists. Just in time for Mother’s Day, we asked a few of our favorite local jewelry designers what inspires them (and a few other burning questions)!

Here’s what Ann Lightfoot had to say:

How long have you been making jewelry?

Since 2003.

What was the first piece you made?

I repurposed a piece my dad bought for my mom in Nepal in 1979.

What inspires you?

According to Instagram, my thing is flowers and babies. And Barack Obama.

When you’re out of ideas, what do you do for inspiration?

Get a good night’s sleep.

The favorite piece you’ve ever made and why?

Once pieces ship, I tend to forget all about them. But somewhere out there, probably in New York City because it was a piece for DKNY, there is a bib style necklace of rainbow moonstone drops suspended from sterling silver hammered disks that I’d love to have back. Sigh.

What is your go-to piece from your own collection (if different from above).

Always my ocean agate rings.

What’s your favorite piece for spring?

The pendants of three wood links with mohair/linen joints. Can’t wait to see them paired with flowing, breezy summer dresses.

Necklaces, bracelets, or rings (which is your comfort zone)?

Used to be necklaces. Now I wear earrings more often. But I always wear bracelets and rings.

Favorite gemstone or metal?

Moonstone and all its varietals.

Morning or evening person?

Used to be morning. Now I’m evening.

What can’t you live without (excluding your family):

Lip balm (obviously I could live without it … but I prefer not to).

What’s something that’s always in your fridge?

Parmesan cheese.

Where can I buy your jewelry?

We don’t yet sell online. A full list of retail stores is on our website annlightfoot.com. Locally we are at Lori Warner Gallery in Chester and Lulu’s in Guilford. And feel free to contact us directly at orders@annlightfoot.com.
