Handcrafted Ice Cream at Honeycone in Chester

Chester Village’s latest addition has been open for just one week and I already fancy myself a regular. Lucky me, I’ve tested a variety of flavors from Chocolate Milk to Pumpkin Clove and I don’t plan on stopping there. Honeycone is a dream realized by a local mother-daughter team. Tula, after a career in the gourmet cookware industry and her daughter Christiana, who holds a Masters Degree in Vineyard and Winery Management from Bordeaux, have translated their affinity for fine food and wine into this creative ice cream shop. Not only the ice cream but the sprinkles, butterscotch, marshmallows, and cones are all carefully crafted in-house with ingredients that are sourced locally and/or sustainably and in support of small business. Their milk supply comes from an Amish-Mennonite dairy farm in Pennsylvania while their Vanilla Bean from Madagascar. They offer a solid, strong coffee from CT coffee roasters GIV (of Canton). Real Belgian Waffles (a la mode!) and Baklava are served on the weekends. Cold Brew Floats, Palmiers and fair-trade chocolates are all at the ready. Dairy-free and vegan options are available, too.

Perfectly seasonal and bursting with layered flavor, the Deconstructed Pumpkin Pie Sundae special was a show stopper. Made with pumpkin clove ice cream, salted caramel, whipped cream, and candied pecans, I devoured every ounce of it.

Grab a couple of pints and toppings to stock your freezer between visits. Or just become a regular sampler like me!
