Summer on the Shoreline is all about farm produce, fresh catch, and local meats and cheeses. We are beyond ready to hit all of our favorite markets! Here’s our list…

Coventry Farmers’ Market
Open every Sunday through October, the 21st season of the Coventry Farmers’ Market is in full swing on the grounds of Nathan Hale Homestead in Coventry. This market is one of the largest farmers’ markets in Connecticut, featuring some of the best of CT-grown, CT-made products around at one of the most unspoiled countryside settings in the state. Farmers’ Market at the Guilford Fairgrounds
This market is a Thursday destination for shoreline locals through mid-fall. Select from locally grown fruits and vegetables as well as baked goods, artisan breads, meats, seafood, fresh pasta, eggs and many more specialty products.  You will also find local, CT made crafts food trucks and live music.

Guilford Farmers’ Market at Dudley Farm
Enjoy browsing local and organic seasonal produce and handmade arts and crafts, on the Picturesque Grounds of the Historic Dudley Farm Museum featuring the beauty and serenity of the Farm as it was in the year 1900. You’ll find ample parking, gorgeous grounds and sheep.

Madison Farmers’ Market
This beautiful, bustling, and diverse market runs through Thanksgiving and is centrally located on the Madison Historic Town Green. You’ll find a wide array of CT Grown and locally produced items, including organic fruits and vegetables, mushrooms, meat, dairy, fish, bread, baked goods, honey, and prepared foods. Stonington Village Farmers’ Market
From Memorial Weekend to mid-October, Stonington Farmer’s Market offers a wide variety of fresh produce, baked goods, cheese, meat, seafood, flowers, hand-made items and more. In addition to great food, different craft vendors are featured each week at the market and local musicians provide entertainment while you choose from the latest harvest.

City Seed Markets
This year City Seed celebrates its 20th Anniversary! CitySeed Farmers Markets are producer-only markets, which means all of the produce a farmer sells under their tent was grown on their farm – which also means you will only find seasonal produce that is native to Connecticut. City Seed features three markets in New Haven:

  • Wooster Square at Conte West School at 511 Chapel Street in New Haven: Open Saturdays, 9am-1pm
  • Edgewood Park at Corner of West Rock Avenue and Whalley Ave in New Haven: Open Sundays, 10am-1pm
  • Dixwell House at 197 Dixwell Ave in New Haven: Wednesdays, 3-6pm starting June 14th

The Deep River Farmers Market

East Haddam Farmers’ Market
Wednesdays at Shagbark Lumber & Farm Supplies the market gets kicked into gear from June through September.  Grocery shop from local farmers, bakers and artisans.  Enjoy food trucks and music while you support your local farmers.

Niantic Farmers’ Market

The Waterford Farmers’ Market
This community driven farm market is in the heart of beautiful Waterford, featuring fresh, organic local produce, meats, honey, eggs, bread, sweets, handmade goods, live music, food trucks and more.

Chester Sunday Market
The Chester Village Sunday Market is a weekly town-wide farmers’ market that brings the community together. You’ll enjoy a wide selection of produce, meats, cheeses, breads and so much more. Grab a slice of wood fired pizza or an ice cream while you peruse all that the vendors have to offer.

Colchester Farmers’ Market
Sundays on the Colchester Green are the place to be seen when the town market celebrates their everything local and healthy from June through October.  Shop from local produce, bakers and artisans and enjoy music while you support your local farmers.

Old Saybrook Farmers’ Market
The Old Saybrook Farmer’s Market is going into its 28th year.  They started as a market of two vendors in 1996, and now they are certified by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture to guarantee you that everything sold at their market is Connecticut Grown or Made, much of which is harvested or made same day it is offered at the market.

FARM STANDS

Barberry Hill Farm

In the mood for a beautiful road trip down the shoreline for a bunch of fresh flowers and a bag of sweet heirloom tomatoes? Then head to Barberry Hill Farm in Madison. This 100-year-old family farm practices sustainable farming methods and grows their crops without the use of pesticides and fungicides. The roadside stand, on the Post Road between Madison and Guilford, is always a feast for the eyes.

Bishop’s Orchards

You can enjoy the bounty at Bishop’s all year long.  From their home grown produce to their world famous pies and yes – HALF pies as well as grab and go meals for those busy family nights, then top it off with their edible cookie dough.  Having a party, they can make your entertaining easy with their party platters and special orders.

Cold Spring Farm

Head out to the edge of Lake Hayward in Colchester and you’ll find a sprawling farm featuring their honor-system farm stand. It’s easy to spot and you can get your fill of freshly harvested produce and locally made baked goods. The fridges and freezers are stocked with organic, grass-fed meats from the farm, plus local cheese and milk. You never know what you will find from one season to the next.

Deep Hollow Farm

This organic, no-till farm is churning out perfectly lined rows of beets, kale and heirloom tomatoes and everything in between. The farmhouse store is tucked away near the end of Deep Hollow Road and open:

Four Mile River Farm

Family-run Four Mile is famous for its burgers that turn up on many fine restaurant menus but there’s lots more than burgers at the farmstand. You’ll find every cut of beef imaginable from sirloin strips to steak tips, plus nitrate-free hot dogs and kielbasa. Get your entire dinner here: a refrigerated case is stocked with Four Root Farm’s salad mix, arugula and herbs, and grab some chèvre from Sweet Pea Farm. Paleo peeps can stock up on bone broth, too.

Long Table Farm  

Long Table Farm practices sustainable agriculture, and provides a wealth of seasonal vegetables and fruit at their Saturday Market from 10am – 1pm, guest vendors (pizza and more!) every week. 256 Beaver Brook Road, Lyme

Lakeside Feed

You might come here as much for an ice cream cone as for a rack of ribs or a carton of fava beans, but this is a fun place to hit for the whole family. From the llamas out front to the baby chicks in the feed store, the tots will love a trip here. Once you get past the tubs of ice cream, you’ll find a freezer case full of farm meats, from hot and sweet Italian sausage to bacon, burgers, stew meat and steaks.

Sankow’s Beaver Brook

Head a mile up Beaver Brook Road in Lyme and you’ll happen upon an old farmhouse with a faded sign out front. Head out back to the farm store to find refrigerated and freezer cases full of Sankow’s award-winning cow and goat cheeses, frozen goodies like lamb and bean chili, bolognese sauce, and stacks of Shepherd’s Pie. Don’t leave without a container or two of their pesto. It’s the BEST. Next door is a shop full of wool products, sweaters and the cutest socks.

Scott’s Yankee Farmer

Get here early for the best hot apple cinnamon donuts available only on weekends, then browse their own hot house tomatoes and tons of freshly picked berries and veggies. Check the blackboard or their website for pick-your-own dates.

Staehly’s

Folks head here for hanging baskets, veggies, Grannie’s pies and fruit wines, but we like the rows of mason jars filled with all manner of tempting treats. The spiced peaches make a handy dessert, just pile a few over a bowl of vanilla ice cream. Bread and butter pickles are a staple in our house, and who could resist a jar of old-fashioned pickled beet balls? A stash of these in your pantry make fantastic hostess gifts.

Stone Acres Farm

This historic 63-acre working farm celebrates natural farming, sustainable food, culinary education, and the preservation of open space. They also supply the famed Oyster Club and Engine Room in Mystic. They offer variety of florals, sweets, greens, eggs, veggies, honey, dairy, local meat. White Gate Farm This is the stand for the aesthete. This famous organic farm features meticulously displayed fresh veggies and a variety of delicacies made in the Farm Kitchen. I never leave without a bag or two of gluten-free breakfast cookies (stash them in the freezer, they keep well and don’t need defrosting), some hummus, and perhaps the weekly soup.  Read about White Gate’s Farm Fest Saturdays here.
