A Few Favorites in Fairfield County

I don’t make it to Fairfield County often, but when I do, I feel like I stick out like a sore thumb. Those Greenwich gals are spit and polished and I don’t know how to apply eye shadow, let alone find time for a brow wax. I just don’t fit in. But that’s OK, because I love that I can wear my raggedy yoga pants all over the Shoreline and no one gives a hoot. Now and then, however, it’s fun to see the goodies that the Greenwich ladies have at their manicured fingertips. Here’s my list.

Westport:

I love to thumb through the nighties and lingerie at Soleil Toile for high end undies from Hanro and Calida, Wolford hosiery and Eres swimwear.

Head to Lucy’s for contemporary and designer collections from the likes of Joie, Plenty, Haute Hippy, Diane Von Furstenburg, Alice & Olivia and Rachel Zoe.

Fans of all things black, navy, gray, white and striped (me) will have a field day at Henry Lehr, stocked with Nili Lotan, Inhabit sweaters, Organic, James Perse and Repetto ballet flats. No website.

Can’t ever resist a stop at Dovecote for their amazing collection of vintage lighting, upholstered furniture, ikat pillows, perfect candles, journals, scarves and jewelry (from cheap and cheerful to big bucks).

Troll the Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier counters for a new lipstick at Blue Mercury. The staff is lovely and attentive (and you won’t walk away with just a lipstick…).

On your way out of town, stop at Crumbs Cupcakes for a dozen “taste” sized treats to bring home.

Greenwich:

If you’re on the hunt for home decor, don’t miss Ann Sacks Tile, Waterworks, Exquisite Surfaces or Mise En Scene all on Putnam Ave.

A few favorites on Greenwich Ave:

Head to H.H. Brown for their stellar collections of “comfort” shoes that look like anything but. Born, Vintage Shoe Company, Sofft and Korkease.

Greenwich Pharmacy: there’s nothing better than a new-fashioned pharmacy that stocks everything from my favorite tinted moisturizer (Natura Bisse from Spain) to Bliss products to classic Rigaud candles. Great gift destination.

Giggles would have been serious trouble if it was around when my daughter was born.

Gabby for racks of oversized cashmere sweaters and ponchos. 70 Greenwich Ave., no website.

The irrepressible Jonathan Adler (and his store).

And you can’t skip Mitchells/Richards or Saks if you’re after top designer labels.
