Laura and I spent a sunny day wandering around Watch Hill, catching up on all the new shops and revisiting our favorites. We stopped for lunch at Ten Sandwiches, a sweet spot for creative hand-helds and salads, then ended the day with drinks on the porch at Ocean House. Perfection! Here’s our list:

Bay Breeze Interior and Antiques Shop

No trip to Watch Hill feels complete without a stop at Bay Breeze. If you’re a sucker for old pine furniture and one-of-a-kind finds like me, you’ll be in heaven. I can never resist an antique wood side table, and you’ll find plenty here, along with pine chests, antique armoires, and other timeless pieces at surprisingly reasonable prices. The gift selection is equally tempting. We loved the tiny summer-themed needlepoint kits (I might actually complete one this size!), Old Bay enamel pots, bowls and shakers, and colorful quick-dry towels that are as practical as they are pretty.

Lilly Pulitzer

This perennial summer favorite has launched a collection of archival prints, and it’s absolutely brilliant. Bright, cheerful patterns from the ’60s and ’70s have been reimagined in classic shifts, maxi-dresses, easy shirts, and more warm-weather staples. My favorite was a sleeveless tunic dress with matching shorts underneath—equal parts polished and practical.

High Point Home

Part home boutique, part fashion destination, High Point Home is one of those rare shops where you’ll find a summer dress, a statement necklace, and the perfect hostess gift—all under one roof. Alongside stylish dresses and chic hats, look for charming Merci plates with block-print designs, Sister Parish fabrics and wallpaper, and Elizabeth Cole’s stunning charm necklaces, which strike just the right balance between timeless and on trend.

Moone Boutique

If you’re on the hunt for a new pair of prescription frames or sunnies, make this brand-new Watch Hill boutique your first stop. The selection of designer eyewear is outstanding, with coveted frames from the likes of Oliver Peoples, Matsuda, Tom Ford, and DITA. I rarely find frames I love (and I’m always looking), but I could have happily walked out with more than one pair. The chic mother-daughter shop is run by Kelly, while her mother—whose optometry office is down the street—can help with eye exams and prescriptions. And don’t stop at the eyewear. The Italian leather handbags are stunning, and the handcrafted sterling silver and gold-plated jewelry is reason enough to pop in—even if your prescription is perfectly up to date.

Three Islands

I hadn’t visited Three Islands in a couple of years, and what a transformation. Designed in Bali, the cotton print collection has expanded and still captures that effortless island style. Find breezy beach tunics (starting around $109), wide-leg pants, shirred skirts, and now a terrific swim collection. I especially loved the classic one-piece tank swimsuit—simple, flattering, and surprisingly hard to find. Men’s shirts, polos, shorts and trunks, and woven rattan bags round out the selection.

Noon

Noon, new this year,  is one of those stores that instantly makes you smile. Founded by two best friends—a jewelry designer and a graphic designer—the shop is filled with colorful, thoughtfully designed pieces that are created by the duo themselves. From bright printed tea towels and cozy blankets to candles and jewelry, everything has a playful aesthetic. We especially loved the delicate shell necklaces, which make the perfect little summer souvenir.

Pearls & Plaid

Pearls & Plaid has opened a Watch Hill outpost, and if you’ve visited their shops in Old Saybrook and Niantic, this one is every bit as fresh and fun as you’d hope. Standouts were the charm bar (a great mother/daughter activity on a rainy day) and these hilarious frozen drink mixes. Add alcohol (or not) and pop in the freezer!

Christina Stankard

A perennial favorite of mine, Christina Stankard is the kind of shop that feels like it has been curated by your most stylish friend. I’ve long admired Christina’s delicate gemstone jewelry, but this visit introduced me to even more treasures, including classic and colorful French straw fedoras, Matty Miller’s beautiful botanical silk scarves (at $75, they feel like a bargain), and an absolutely perfect melamine lobster tray that, unsurprisingly, came home with me.

Wh20

This elevated women’s shop has lots to ogle, including lovely straw hats trimmed with bright hatbands, rainbow striped straw totes, those adorable rolls of cotton cocktail napkins, here in sweet prints, elegant fine and beaded jewelry, and effortlessly chic caftans that are made for long summer days by the water. It’s the kind of shop where you walk in looking for one thing and leave with three.

Sara Campbell

I’ve been a fan of Sarah Campbell since my Boston days—I even carried the line in my own shops—and it’s just as timeless today as it was then. Her collections are filled with easy-to-wear silhouettes in signature prints that somehow feel both classic and completely current. I’m a firm believer that when you find a dress that fits, buy it, and that’s exactly what I did. Designed in Boston and made in the USA, Sarah’s pieces are known for their exceptional fit, cheerful patterns, and impeccable quality. Don’t miss her best-selling stretch pants—as flattering as they are comfortable.

OMO

The hardest decision you’ll have when it comes to visiting OMO is whether to pop by on your way in to Watch Hill or on your way out. Maybe both? There’s plenty to peruse (and lots of parking) at this stunning, shingled, waterside shop. Owner and curator Joanna Papineau-Allen has gathered a vast collection of top designer apparel, fine jewelry, and accessories (including the best beach hats and colorful sneakers!). We had a ball ogling the multitude of racks of summer attire from designers like Villagallo, Alix of Bohemia, Frank & Eileen, and Trovata’s Birds of Paradise. There’s something for literally everyone here, from party favors and hostess gifts to Jellycats and plenty of one-of-a-kind treasures. Do not miss!
