The E List Vintage & Consignment Trail

I love a good treasure hunt—and that’s why I’m excited about this week’s list. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite local consignment shops and vintage boutiques—the places where you can actually dig for something great instead of scrolling through 47 pages of things that all look exactly the same.

We’re not the only ones rediscovering the joy of resale. The global secondhand market is expected to reach $393 billion by 2030, growing twice as fast as the overall apparel market. Vintage is having a very big moment—and for good reason: it’s more sustainable, better priced, and you’re likely to find something genuinely unique.

So go forth and rummage. Your next favorite thing might already have a story.

CINDERELLA’S ATTIC

Madison | Best for: Curated finds + community

THE VIBE
Warm, welcoming and wonderfully well-curated. Owner Kristen Ripell says she strives to create community in her shop, and it’s obvious the minute you walk in. She knows many of her customers by name—and they clearly know and trust her eye.

SHOP HERE FOR
Designer denim • Linen • Contemporary designers • Vintage Coach • Kids’ clothing • Unexpected bargains

THE GOOD STUFF
Kristen has a clear standard for what makes it onto her racks, insisting on excellent quality from her consignors, and it shows. On my visit, there was a rack of like-new Frank & Eileen linen shirts, plus their famous Patrick Polo and trousers at about one-third of retail. I also spotted Moussy Vintage and Good American denim, Victoria Beckham, an authentic vintage Coach crossbody, a Chanel-style ME+EM jacket ($149), an Ulla Johnson silk velvet prairie skirt and a Rails plaid wool jacket. There’s a well-stocked kids’ department, too. And with so many happy shoppers coming through the door, I wasn’t the only one having fun—I couldn’t resist a $9 block-print J.Crew shirt.

DON’T MISS
The racks of designer and contemporary clothing. The inventory is so thoughtfully edited that even the everyday pieces feel special.

MARIJANE BOUTIQUE

Guilford | Best for: Designer bags + luxury fashion

THE VIBE
A polished boutique experience with an impeccably curated inventory—and owner Lisa LoRicco has been in the fashion business for decades and knows great style when she sees it.

SHOP HERE FOR
Louis Vuitton • Chanel • Gucci • YSL • Louboutin • Burberry

THE GOOD STUFF
If you’ve been dreaming about a designer bag, start here. Marijane specializes in high-end bags (on the hunt for a Louis Vuitton Speedy? You may just find it here), along with an impressive selection of designer shoes and clothing. My favorite finds included a navy Louis Vuitton shirt dress, a stunning Chanel jacket and a Burberry jacket. This isn’t bargain-hunting territory, but the experience—and the inventory—feel more like a luxury boutique than traditional consignment.

DON’T MISS
The handbags. Lisa’s decades in the fashion business translate into a particularly well-curated selection of designer bags.

TOVA’S VINTAGE SHOP

Old Saybrook | Best for: Glamorous vintage + designer finds

THE VIBE
A nationwide destination for perfectly preserved vintage, from the Victorian era through the 1970s. Think elegant, rare, and seriously swoon-worthy.

SHOP HERE FOR
Chanel + designer pieces • Evening bags • Costume jewelry • Victorian slips

THE GOOD STUFF
Everything at Tova is in pristine condition, with a selection of vintage pieces that feel more like museum-worthy finds than secondhand shopping. I spied a stunning Chanel blouse for just $180, along with an irresistible assortment of accessories—from feathered hats to evening bags and gloves. If you’re looking for a little old-school glamour (or the perfect piece of statement jewelry), put Tova on your list.

DON’T MISS

The cocktail and prom dresses. On the hunt for a one-of-a-kind party dress? You’ll find it here.

FANTASIA CONSIGNMENTS

Old Saybrook | Best for: Building your wardrobe

THE VIBE
Fun, fresh and surprisingly polished. The shop is spotless, the inventory is beautifully presented on wooden hangers, and owners Kim and Kathy bring an infectious enthusiasm to the experience.

SHOP HERE FOR
Everyday designer pieces • Shoes • Handbags • Jackets • Wardrobe staples

THE GOOD STUFF
Fantasia feels like the kind of place where you can actually build a wardrobe—not just hunt for a one-off treasure. While I was there, Kim and Kathy were unwrapping a Chloe bag ($295) and a brand-new Longchamp Le Pliage ($120). I also spotted a super-cute Joe’s jean jacket for $30 and a brand-new & Other Stories worker jacket for $49. There were plenty of shoes, too, all in excellent condition. The happy customers coming and going while I was there were a pretty good endorsement.

DON’T MISS
The jackets and shoes. There are plenty of wearable, well-priced pieces that could become instant wardrobe favorites.

CHESTER VINTAGE

Chester | Best for: Eclectic vintage + unexpected finds

THE VIBE
Fun, spirited and full of personality. Helmed by two best friends with eagle eyes and a knack for presentation, Chester Vintage makes treasure hunting feel like a very good time.

SHOP HERE FOR
Vintage clothing • Leather jackets • Home décor • Mid-century barware • Hermès scarves

THE GOOD STUFF
The selection runs from vintage and gently used clothing to housewares and home décor, with plenty of surprises along the way. I loved the chic leather jackets and a fabulous Persian lamb shrug (yes, vintage fur is having a moment), but the mid-century barware may have been my favorite—a cocktail shaker with matching glasses that practically begged for a martini. And if you’re lucky, you might even uncover a stash of Hermès scarves. The two owners are a delight, and their enthusiasm makes the whole experience part of the fun.

DON’T MISS
The home goods and accessories. They’re where you’re most likely to stumble upon that completely unexpected piece you didn’t know you were looking for.

FRINGE

Clinton | Best for: Denim + deals

THE VIBE
Young, hip and a little bit chaotic—in the best possible way. Fringe is the kind of place where you go looking for one thing and leave with something you never knew you needed.

SHOP HERE FOR
Denim • Trendy finds • Vintage + contemporary pieces • $7 bargains

THE GOOD STUFF
The young ’uns flock to Fringe for its vast inventory of denim and cool, youthful vibe. Owner Kristen has her finger firmly on the pulse of her customers, keeping the selection fresh and on-trend. And then there’s the mammoth bin of $7 finds. If digging for the unexpected is your idea of a good time, this is your spot.

DON’T MISS
The $7 bin. It’s a treasure hunt all by itself—and you never know what you’ll find.

PANDEMONIUM

Deep River | Best for: Serious treasure hunters

THE VIBE
Part thrift shop, part treasure hunt, part exotic-animal sanctuary—with a cozy café thrown in for good measure. Housed in a historic manufacturing building, Pandemonium is not your typical consignment shop.

SHOP HERE FOR
$5 clothing • Men’s, women’s + kids’ finds • Housewares • Kitchen gear • Unexpected treasures

THE GOOD STUFF
There are racks and racks of $5 clothing in every category, plus a sprawling selection of housewares. You’ll have to dig—this is not the place for an impeccably curated rack—but the payoff can be substantial. Laura managed to assemble an entire set of brand-new All-Clad pans for just $5 each. Once you’ve had your fill of treasure hunting, stop into the cozy café for a treat. But wait, there’s more: the whole operation is tied to an exotic-animal rescue and rehabilitation sanctuary, and you can visit the animals. Thrift shopping + coffee + exotic animals? Pandemonium may have cracked the code.

DON’T MISS
The housewares. Dig through the shelves—you might just walk out with a serious kitchen score for a fraction of what it would cost new.
