Fresh Bagels, Bialys, Bread, Lox & More at Duby’s in Old Saybrook

One thing I was not going to miss was Duby’s Bagel Bakery’s opening day in Old Saybrook! Give me a toasted everything bagel with cream cheese and lox, and I’m a very happy girl. Even happier because I can get the REAL thing anytime I want (as long as it’s between 6:30am and 2pm!). Duby, the infamous baker behind Beaver Brook Bakery, longed to open a brick-and-mortar and just finished decking out a fresh granite-clad space at 785 Boston Post Road.

He’s still cranking out all the yummy sourdough breads you’ve come to know and love: Rustic, Cranberry Pecan, Raisin Walnut, Apricot Pecan, and Multigrain. But me? I’m here for the bagels, lox, and whitefish salad! These bagels remind me of the Sundays of my youth when my grandfather would take me along to buy brunch fixings. Bagels back then were not the behemoths they are nowadays, but a normal size for a normal stomach. And Duby’s are, too, with a crispy crust and delightfully chewy interior in all the essential flavors (even pumpernickel and salt!). Make sure to grab a bag of rugelach on your way out. Finally, a Jewish girl can get her fix without too much of a schlep!

Good to know: Take out only, Ashlawn Farm Coffee, sandwiches, muffins, brownies, and Dr. Brown’s, of course. Hours this week are 8 to noon, starting next week 6:30am to 2pm.
