Chenzos, Family-Friendly Italian in Higganum
Sometimes we enjoy the yummiest meals when we stumble on an unassuming restaurant and have low expectations! That’s precisely what happened to us at Chenzo’s. This Italian eatery, serving modern adaptations of red-sauce classics, is just that. Helmed by two young entrepreneurs with extensive backgrounds in the restaurant industry and a seasoned chef installed in the kitchen, this new restaurant overdelivers. Casual, family-friendly, and reasonably priced, it’s a neighborhood gathering place. We watched couples and families piling in, exchanging greetings.
Our delightful server steered us to the best of the menu. Crispy artichokes were delectable with a lemony bite. Arancini, which in my mind can be a big hit or a big miss, were perfect here, with toothsome risotto studded with pancetta in a light, crispy crust. Delish! My short rib, in a pool of cheesy polenta, was the ultimate in comfort food. Laura’s orechiette with broccoli rabe and sausage was a delight; napped in broth rather than cream, making it a lighter take on this often heavy dish.
We took home the giant portion of chicken parm, but not before sampling the slim cutlet of crispy chicken doused in a bright red sauce and melted cheese. Believe it or not, we even ordered the Margherita pizza, which would satisfy any hungry family returning from an afternoon of sports.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, made even better by the earnest owners and attentive staff. We always love supporting young entrepreneurs chasing their dreams, so if you find yourself hungry in that neck of the woods, we highly recommend stopping here.
