Deep River Roasters: A New Cafe in Witch Hazel Works, Centerbrook

bannerBg

There’s a fresh, new coffee shop on a sunny corner of the Witch Hazel Works factory building. This cozy cafe serves up tasty coffee made from beans roasted in small batches just blocks away plus tea and treats from celebrated local purveyors like Savvy Tea, Cohen’s Bagels, and Eight Mile Meadow.  After 13 years of home roasting (in Deep River) for friends, family, and selected epicurean shops and eateries, Matt Resnisky (a corporate escapee) and his wife Bethe, (a school teacher by day) decided to take their micro-roasted coffee to the public. It’s likely you’ve seen the brand or tasted the brews in local haunts like Olive Oyl’s, The Nest, to name a few, or in local brewery High Nine’s Joe Coffee Stout. You’ll find Matt in here on the daily pouring his coffee and whipping up specialty lattes (Lavender!? My first one ever and I slurped it down in an instant – made with DRR’s own lavender syrup). There’s no seating inside but grab a spot on the adjacent patio at the umbrellaed tables or in the grassy field alongside the steam train to enjoy your goods. If you see the Maple Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies by Let’s Start From Scratch in stock, don’t pass them up!
