Fill Your Beach Bag at Phoebe’s BookCellar

Looking to unplug for the summer? (Well, we can try, right?). No better way that I know of than a deep dive into a good book. For me, it’s the last defense against being tethered to the interwebs, 24/7. I try to limit the number of “things” that enter my house, but I’m hopeless when it comes to books. I’m a total hoarder. Occasionally, when desperate for shelf room, I’ll pack up a box for Phoebe’s BookCellar at the Old Lyme Library. You’ve probably done it, too. But what you might not know, is this spot is heaven for readers.

Used and rare books (lovingly cleaned by the volunteer staff) line the shelves in every conceivable genre. You can snag fat art tomes for a pittance or a beach bag full of novels for less than the cost of one spanking new paperback.  And those shelves of cookbooks are so very tempting. The kids’ corner should be on every parents’ list, as you’ll find readers for every level, plus a cozy nook for the tots while you peruse the stacks. And, best of all, every dime you spend (and there won’t be many) benefits the Old Lyme Library. Win, win, win.
