Let’s Celebrate Easter & Passover Anyway, 4/7/2020

Here are a few of the things that happened this week, none of which I’ve ever experienced before: My daughter dyed her hair pink (and no, it doesn’t wash out, at least not quickly), Bobbie (my daughter) and Joe (my husband) made the most delicious crispy eggplant parmesan ever (NY Times recipe, a worthwhile subscription), I’ve disinfected every doorknob and cabinet pull at least once per day, and I had cocktails with my girlfriends on the Houseparty app. Just trying to stay positive.

Also, I am no longer in a rush. I’ve spent my life on fast forward. Jumping out of bed (very early!), zipping from one task to another, feeling like there is NEVER enough time. Like a perennial fifty-yard dash. Well, no more. I get up when I feel like it, stare out the window while I drink my coffee, write in my journal (yup, I want to remember this when it’s over), scribble a VERY short to-do list. Then I usually spend a few minutes surfing the web for disinfectant wipes. And let me tell you, there are none to be had. Vanished, zip, kaput. My sister says that you can occasionally find them on vitacost.com at 3am. I’m not that desperate. Yet.

The other thing that has never happened before is that ten thousand Americans have died of COVID-19.

Here’s a list of take-out for your Easter or Passover table, however small it is, plus a few recipes from chef extraordinaire Priscilla Martel.

Sending love and good wishes to all of you during this incredibly trying time.
