Mystic Knotwork

These iconic sailor rope bracelets were essential to my childhood summers. Purchased at the beginning of a beach vacation and soaked for months in salt and chlorine until Mom insisted on cutting it off with the promise of a fresh one next year. I still feel a wave of excitement when I see them. Nowadays you can find them at Mystic Knotwork in every color imaginable, along with doormats, coasters, monkeyfist keychains, even ankle bracelets – all steeped in this coastal tradition. Headquartered on Cottrell Street, Mystic Knotwork has been owned and operated by the Beaudoin family since the late fifties. While working on a cargo ship in the thirties, Matt Beaudoin’s grandfather began his love affair with nautical knot tying.  He honed his skills for decades before eventually turning his craft into a business. Matt and his family are still churning out the inventory in a 2,000 foot store/studio, overlooking the Mystic River. Quintessentially New England! Sailor bracelets between $4-$5.
