National Girlfriend’s Day
Because August 1st is National Girlfriend’s Day, I thought I’d pass along some important information to ALL my girlfriends! I recently attended an informative luncheon about new tools for detecting breast cancer. At my last mammogram at the Middlesex Hospital’s Women’s Imaging Center at Shoreline Medical Center in Westbrook, I experienced the brand new technology firsthand. Not only was I in and out of there in 15 minutes (!), it was fascinating to see the 3D mammogram. In a nutshell, the new 3D imaging finds cancers missed with conventional 2D mammography, resulting in a 40% increase in invasive cancer detection. That means cancer is detected while it’s too small to see on conventional mammography, and the earlier cancer is detected, the better the outcome. If you’ve been putting off your mammogram for any reason, please make an appointment for a screening and ask for a 3D mammogram.
- You must have a prescription from a physician (primary care, gynecologist, etc.).
- NOTE: Ask your physician to write the prescription for a 3D mammogram AND request a 3D mammogram during scheduling
