I find it increasingly difficult to get my mind around the horror of recent international events. No sooner do I change my Facebook profile to reflect that I stand in solidarity with France, then folks start posting that it’s ridiculous to switch your photo when brutality is happening all over the world. I agree. But I also think that, at least for me, Facebook is not a place for posting my politics for the world to see. Ditto minor daily grievances and complaints. Changing my photo is expressing that I am aware (and saddened). For me Facebook is a happy place; a chance to browse photos of my kid, my friends’ kids, and relatives I rarely see. That’s what I use it for. It is social media after all.
Thoughts? I’d love to hear them. erica@the-e-list.com
