Transitional Wardrobe 2025
I could probably regurgitate a transitional collage from 2014, and it wouldn’t be much different from what I have here! After a lifetime in the fashion business, I’ve seen and worn every trend more than once (well, maybe shoulder pads never really made a comeback), so now I stick to the basics. I vary little from my uniform of jeans or black pants, sneakers or boots, and a blazer. But basics, too, need a seasonal update. Here are some looks I’m considering this season.
p.s. It’s easier to pull these ideas from national brands because most small shops buy just a few of each item, and by the time I write about it, it’s gone. But if something here appeals to you, please seek it out locally.
Jeans
I’m sticking firmly in the middle of the road. I’ve been sporting tiny flares for a few years now (if you’re clinging to your skinny jeans, this is your best bet), but I’ve updated into a moderate wide leg, and I’ve found a few good ones that don’t make you look like a tree stump! Barrel-leg jeans are one trend that doesn’t demand a repeat, so I’ve excluded them here.
1.High rise cropped slim wide leg in rinse $148
2. Ecru jean with black cotton turtleneck and leather bomber $120
3. High rise 90’s loose jeans $39 (on sale for a limited time)
4. Low rise denim full length trouser $158
5. Le Jean weekend jean, lower slung unfinished $248
Jackets
Leather or pleather, I’m ready for a bomber! I was on the hunt last year and didn’t find the right one, but more styles are on the racks this year. I like a longer version to layer with sweaters so you can keep it going most of the winter. A chic look with white jeans and a black turtleneck (and yes, you CAN wear white (or cream) jeans in the Fall!) If the bomber doesn’t appeal, invest in a lady jacket, my other go-to, and a wardrobe extender that never goes out of style.
1. Wool cardigan lady jacket $448
2. Anine Bing Leon $400
3. Oversized leather jacket $449
4. Lady jacket denim $128
5. Classic Bomber $525
6. Anine Bing Kelanie Vegan $600
Sneakers
Long a fan of white sneakers, I’m ready to break out, especially since I’m drowning in a closet of neutrals. Not that I’m giving up my whites anytime soon (the platform Sea Vee is my latest), but it’s high time to add some color.
