Velvet Underground

The owner’s sharp eye and degree in art history informs the inventory at the aptly named Velvet Underground, a new consignment/vintage destination on one end of the Velvet Mill. Simple pipe racks, high ceilings and glossy wood floors banish the fusty image of a used clothing store forever. This one is fastidiously organized by color and oh, so easy to shop. It’s a great stop for party dresses under $100, a good selection of classic trenchcoats, men’s cashmere sweaters, I even spied a wedding gown!
I loved the vintage ensembles in checked wool with original G. Fox labels and an outlandish houndstooth maxi suit. In the works are some simple and classic shifts that Catherine, the owner, intends to whip up from vintage Vogue patterns. Currently open weekends only.
