13 Questions for Aquinnah Jewelry Design
The Connecticut Shoreline is a veritable breeding ground for designers, makers, and artists. Just in time for Mother’s Day, we asked a few of our favorite local jewelry designers what inspires them (and a few other burning questions).
Here’s what Kelley Solomon, the designer of Aquinnah had to say:
How long have you been making jewelry?
Not including my childhood…I’d say 16 years:)
What was the first piece you made?
Gosh…to be honest, I really don’t remember. It’s been so long. Probably a beaded necklace.
What inspires you?
The favorite piece you’ve ever made and why?
Right now, the boob necklace I just designed. Because with every sale I donate $$ to one of my favorite nonprofit organization’s, FORCE – Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered. My mom and I are both BRCA1 positive so it’s very special for me and my family.
What is your go-to piece from your own collection (if different from above).
It always changes. When I’m not wearing the boobs, I’ll wear a pair of my new larger earrings like the “Runway” or “Wishbone” studs. I’m really into statement earrings right now.
Your favorite piece for spring?
My Fishtail Project Bracelets and new bold earrings.
Necklaces, bracelets, or rings: which is your comfort zone?
Earrings.
Favorite gemstone or metal?
Diamonds and gold.
Morning or evening person?
Evening.
What can’t you live without (excluding your family)?
Maya Chia face oil.
What’s something that’s always in your fridge?
Apples.
