We’ve long been fans of 640 Health Therapies in the center of Westbrook. Since their expansion last year, there’s so much more to love. They’ve doubled in size to add several more treatment rooms, an event space for continuing education, workshops and classes and a slew of new services. We tried two during this recent coldsnap:

Advanced Reflexology

Reflexology has been known to relieve an array of ailments from sore muscles to digestive issues and everything in between. It improves circulation and the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the cells. We couldn’t wait to give it a try! The Advanced Reflexology session started with an aromatherapy and magnesium foot soak in a private treatment room, followed by a gentle scrub from my kind and welcoming practitioner Cheri. Next, once cozy on the massage table (dressed in comfy clothes) with feet elevated, Cheri proceeded with a magical combination of gentle pressure on points throughout my feet, massage, and warm stones. I had arrived with chronic (but mild enough) hip pain and Cheri confirmed that the congestion she observed in my ankles was associated with my hip issues. I left feeling relief in my hips and, as a bonus, completely calm and relaxed. She concluded with a guided meditation to help me return to the room. Looking forward to exploring more benefits of this ancient practice. My only regret was that I had booked only 30 minutes. Next time — one hour!

Infrared Sauna

I was looking for a mini escape on one of those single-digit days recently, so I ducked into 640 for a 15 minute sample of their stunning and spacious Infrared Sauna. The sweet staff set me up with a Turkish robe, a locker for my belongings and a cold face towel. If you’re lucky, you’ll enjoy the sauna solo, but it’s big enough to sit in comfortably with others. Great for detoxing, muscle recovery, weight loss and much more, this level of heat is manageable and can be more relaxing for some than a traditional sauna. The infrared light warms the body on a cellular level rather than simply heating the air that surrounds you. This treatment can be an add-on to other appointments or can be booked on its own. This will be added to our rotation of self-care for sure!

640 has recently introduced Photomedicine, which involves a THOR laser treatment to relieve muscle and joint pain and reduce stiffness wherever the beam is applied.
