Mix It Up With Green Blender

At first the idea of a smoothie box just seemed silly. I mean, really, throw a bunch of fruit, a handful of spinach and a spoon of flax seed in the blender and you’re good to go. But I love a smoothie as a fast, healthy breakfast option, and I was intrigued by the concoctions on Green Blender’s website, so I signed right up for a weekly delivery. My first box of five smoothies (each serve two) arrived on a Thursday which would make for a healthy weekend. Included was all manner of unusual and organic ingredients: plenty of fruits and vegetables, plus single portion packets of superfoods and protein additions.

They’ve done all the nutritional work for you and every smoothie packs a punch. A full description of the ingredients and nutritional info is included, plus icons indicating the benefits of each portion, whether it’s immune boosting, anti-inflammatory, calming or detoxifying. The smoothie making tips are helpful, too. I learned to blend liquids and greens together for one minute before adding the remaining ingredients. Not sure what the intended result of this was, but it did eliminate annoying bits of green between the teeth! Regardless of the many benefits of lucuma powder, chlorella, pea protein and goji berries, these smoothies were GOOD. So good in fact, that I continued my subscription for four weeks, and will likely start it up again. Occasionally I’d come across an unappetizing recipe, and if I wasn’t a fan of an ingredient (a bit too much ginger for my taste) I’d leave it out. But with combos like Cookies ’n Green (pears, chard, lucuma, cacao, hemp & rice milk) and Goji Cranberry Crimson (clementines, cranberries, grapes, walnuts, goji and acai berries) and a ridiculous Chocolate Peanut Butter Milkshake (banana, jicama, avocado, peanut butter and cacao, saved the second portion for dessert) I’ve added some newfound delights to my boring strawberry/banana rotation.

The lovely folks at Green Blender have extended a discount to The E List readers. I heartily recommend you give this one a try! Take 20% off with code ELIST until 2/28.

Good to know: $39 – $49 per ten smoothie box includes shipping depending on how long of a subscription you sign on for. Gift boxes are available, and would make a welcome one for health conscious friends (or those that would like to be) and college students.
