Brunch at The Lace Factory, Deep River

We don’t know how Andrea Isaacs and her Cloud 9 catering crew pull it all off, but somehow they do…and for over 20 years. We’d been dying to get to their new Sunday Brunch at the Lace Factory, so at 10am sharp on a cloudy Sunday, we headed down a torn up Kirtland Street (it’s worth it!) to Deep River Landing. It was a peaceful morning on the river as the captain polished the Becky Thatcher riverboat for her Sunday run. We made our way through the flowers, past the chickens, and up to the top floor at the historic Lace Factory. Traditionally reserved for showers, meetings and smaller private parties, the Riverview Room has been transformed into a welcoming, spacious, yet cozy, dining room for Sunday Brunch. The extravagant buffet includes an omelet station (remember the chickens!), accompanied by perfect potatoes (I used the Remoulade to spice them up – yum!), sausage, bacon and a de riguer carved-to-order baked ham. I went crazy over platters of smoked salmon with all the trimmings, Taleggio and aged cheddar, cured meats and artisanal bread. Teeny mushroom tarts, shrimp and bacon skewers and mini maple walnut french toast made their way out of the kitchen in rotation, and will vary week to week. We couldn’t pass up Bloody Marys with organic cucumber vodka and tasty Mimosas. There’s ALWAYS room for dessert, and we tasted tiny salted caramel and dark chocolate cupcakes, cranberry bread pudding, chocolate mousse and fresh baked ginger cookies – all small enough to sample. I know it sounds like a kooky amount of food, but there is nothing gloppy about this brunch. You can pick and choose, or go for small portions like we did and have it all. Staff and servers are eager to please and if you’re lucky, the Essex Steam Train might just blow by.

Don’t leave without a tour of the 5000 square foot event space downstairs.  Ogle the history on the walls of this well over a century-old factory, which was still making lace in the traditional labor-intensive Leavers Method until 1990.The exquisite, warehouse/loft is beyond Pinterest-worthy.  Every knob, door, fixture, window pane is spot on. If I weren’t married already, I’d be all over this venue.
