Happy Hunting at Idiom, New Haven

Fashion hunters rely on Idiom’s now-you-see-it, now-you-don’t finds. The last recon found a selection of throw-on and oh-so-packable Missoni-Versace-ish dresses and some stylin’ bling from Israel. And for those that don’t like surprises, you can count on their extensive and timeless Eileen Fisher collection (those washed silks for Fall are tempting!). This trip we fell for Peg and Awl’s handmade handbags. The designing couple behind the collection re-use vintage bits of leather, found objects, and waxed canvas to craft this simple and stellar array of totes, duffels and messenger bags. These classic workhorses would make a handy addition to your Fall wardrobe. Price range from $240 to $260.

If little pleasures are your thing, pick up some bath and body deliciousness from lines like Tokyo Milk and Swedish Dream. Jewelry is no afterthought here; off to one side in its own little jewel box, you’ll find global and local artisans with some easy to miss gems, so be careful! Standouts include Soko, an ethically crafted Kenyan grouping of chokers, bracelets and rings, all under $100. Israeli designer, Ayala Bar’s intricate and bejeweled boho earrings and necklaces are one-of-a-kind.

Keep an eye peeled for owner Kim Pedrick’s new lifestyle shop, Dwell, opening just a couple of doors down on September 1st and featuring Ann Lightfoot Jewelry, Bloomingville Home, Rifle Paper Company, Little Barn Apothecary, and lots more unusual finds for you and your home (and your friends!).

The E List readers enjoy a Gift With Purchase, either an Affirmation Bracelet by Metal Monk or Tokyo Milk Lotion samples, packaged in a signature Idiom pouch. Make sure to say you saw it on The E List while supplies last.
