You probably know by now Mix Design Store is one of my favorite go-to gift stores on the Shoreline. It never fails me, whether shopping for my daughter, husband or mother-in-law. What I hadn’t been paying much attention to is their ever expanding kids department. Back-to-school means back-to-back-birthday parties, and back in the day I recall too many last minute Saturday runs to the CVS to grab a Barbie doll or Yahtzee set. Pathetic. Head to Mix instead and stock up on a season’s worth of great gifts. Here’s one I was tempted to buy for myself. The Modern Play Family  ($12.99) is a set of non-gender or race-specific paper dolls with 150 different vinyl cling clothing, hairstyle and accessory options. They live happily in the Modern Play House ($19.99) an imaginative kit of mid-century modern rooms and furniture with even more vinyl clings to customize (the fireplace flips around to a flat screen!). Mom, Dad and birthday boy or girl will be happy with this one and it’s oh, so much better than a Polly Pocket. Say you saw it on The E List and take 20% off one item through 9/30/14.
