I was thrilled to hear that Old Beautiful, one of my favorite antique haunts in Clinton, was moving to larger quarters in Essex. I stopped by the other day to peruse the inventory of ironstone, flint glass, shaker baskets, moody portraits, and plenty of other objects and oddities. Owner, David Perrelli, has a rigorous eye and aesthetic and specializes in pre-Civil war American furniture. If you’re hunting for that perfect tea table with just the right patina, you will find it here (I did!), along with drop-leaves, federal chests, and cupboards. David prices his wares well, and it leaves you wondering why you’d ever buy anything new and shoddy when you can own a hand-crafted antique with centuries of history for the same price.
