We snuck away for a midweek escape to Mystic, excited to wander through Watch Hill, Stonington, and Mystic itself. I’ve been dying to stay at The Whaler’s Inn, and it turned out to be the perfect home base. 

We checked into a Deluxe Suite in the new Stanton House, and from the moment we walked in, I knew this wasn’t your typical New England inn. Think refined coastal style instead of kitschy nautical décor, layered with all the little luxuries that make you want to cancel your dinner reservation and stay in (but definitely not, because you MUST eat at Shipwright’s Daughter!)  There was a fireplace for cozy evenings, a cushy, cloud-like bed, and even the pull-out couch had early-riser Laura sleeping in

It’s the thoughtful details that elevate the experience. We sipped in-room pour-over coffee from a handcrafted Ahmee Ceramics set and raided a mini fridge stocked with complimentary drinks (handy after a hot afternoon of shopping). Every corner of the suite felt carefully considered, from the calming color palette to the luxe linens and navy blue tile and marble bath.

One of the unexpected highlights? A behind-the-scenes tour of the property, where we learned about the inn’s history and its impressive transformation over the years. We also got a peek inside the stunning penthouse suite, complete with wraparound balconies overlooking the Mystic River. Maybe next time!!
