Updated Comfort Food at Milestone in Mystic

Add this spot to the ever-expanding list of worth-the-trip restaurants in Mystic. On Water Street (which has become Restaurant Row) across from Oyster Club, Sift, and The Port of Call, this vast space has a vaguely New Orleans vibe with vintage Tipitina’s posters on the walls, a stretch of bar along one wall, and schoolhouse furniture.
Ah, but what to eat? The menu tantalizes with updates on comfort food, burgers, pizza, and plenty of tempting starters and salads. It was lunchtime after all, so we dove into the recommended Betty White pie: a skinny crusted pizza, dolloped with ricotta, mozzarella, palm, and a drizzle of Mike’s Hot Honey. Slightly sweet and spicy with a chewy crust, we were off to a strong start. The thick tomato bisque, served with a mammoth and gooey half of a grilled cheese on Nana’s spectacular sourdough was a perfect winter warmer, and a colorful beet salad was a fresh addition. Also on the crowd-pleasing menu are classics like roasted chicken, hanger steak, fish and chips, and chicken parm. I had my back to the movie-sized TV screen, but I bet this is the place to be on game day.
