It’s been a while since we’ve stopped into the Velvet Mill in Stonington and we’ve been dying to check out the new shops. Here you go (plus some of our old favorites!).

Bali Bungalow, Velvet Mill, Stonington

You’ll be transported to an island in Indonesia as soon as you step into Bali Bungalow. A covid-refugee couple from NYC has set up a gorgeous shop in the Velvet Mill. You’ll find handwoven leather chairs, reclaimed teak tables (available to special order in any size you desire), stunning oversize rattan pendant lighting, caned benches, and more. Everything in the shop is ethically sourced in Indonesia and handmade by local artisans using indigenous techniques. Fresh and modern, it’s a trip (literally). https://bali-bungalow.com

Plants by the Pool

What’s up with the slightly kooky name? A family plant hobby evolved into building a greenhouse by their pool, and Plants By The Pool was born. A plethora of tropical greenery like Monstera, Mother-In-Law, Dracena, and Jungle Boogie, plus those oh-so-trendy “string of things” hanging plants, will refresh your decor on the double.

Fun & Funky Vintage

No mish-mosh here! Rather, a well-merchandised and fun-to-shop vintage enclave stuffed with mainly mid-century furniture, decor, and clothing. On the hunt for that classic silver arc lamp? You’ll find it here, along with an incredible selection of 70’s era lighting, blonde wood consoles, barware, and, YES, the return of the house dress! I lived through most of the decades represented, so for me, it was a fun little traipse down a nostalgic lane. That mouth-watering scent? It’s Zest Fresh Pastry, and we highly recommend you stop in for treats to take home! Their latest addition is an ice-cream sandwich which we are anxious to get our hands and mouths around.
